About CCOP
Who We Are
June 1985 CCOP Calls Camden to Life! Rev. Martin Gutwein and Rev. Nora Rambert lead the openning ceremony and announce the first 13 member churches
CCOP is a faith-based community organization composed of congregations working together to transform conditions for individuals and families in the city of Camden through the skillful development of local leaders, a disciplined organizing model rooted in the democratic process, and a profound commitment to the values our leaders and community share.
CCOP is multicultural; bringing together families from different racial and ethnic backgrounds, different religious traditions and different neighborhoods in a common effort through collective action to address the serious concerns which affect families in the city including public safety, housing, economic development, healthcare and unemployment.
Bound together by common Judeo-Christian values and faith, CCOP accepts the challenge of facing these social concerns both relationally and prayerfully in order to promote love and justice and to enhance the dignity of every member of our congregations and community.
In over two decades of bringing together families to work at the neighborhood, citywide, and regional levels, CCOP members have accomplished enormous success and demonstrated that putting one's faith into collective action makes religious expression and faith both relevant in today's world as well as a life giving force in our civic arena.
CCOP has been an active and prophetic presence in the City of Camden since 1985. The Camden Courier-Post has recognized CCOP as "the largest and most effective community organization in the city." What makes CCOP different is our faith and value base; our focus on strengthening relationships among families in our communities; and our commitment to developing leaders.
CCOP is also affiliated with the PICO National Network, a network of 50 faith-based community organizations in 150 cities and 18 states, and two international locations.
