$8 Million Home Improvement Program launched in Camden
December 20, 2006
Camden Churches Organized for People (CCOP) held a press conference with state and city officials to launch an $8 million home improvement program that will finance the rehabilitation of 300 homes in Camden. Homeowners in the city's poorest neighborhoods, among the poorest in the nation, will be eligible for loans that will be forgiven if the resident stays five years. The announcement is an important step in CCOP's long-term effort to monitor the progress of hundreds of millions of dollars awarded to Camden by the State of New Jersey in 2002. The money was allocated for redevelopment, new schools, housing rehabilitation, better policing, and fighting corruption in government.
