The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) is comprehensive healthcare legislation that was signed into law by President Obama in March 2010 and among many changes to our nation’s healthcare system, it also expands Medicaid coverage for residents of states who chose to accept Medicaid expansion. New Jersey has agreed to participate in the Medicaid expansion.

Enrollment for Medicaid Expansion plans began October 1, 2013 and will continue as rolling enrollment. The open enrollment period for subsidized Marketplace plans is October 1, 2013 - March 31, 2014.

To be eligible for the Medicaid through the State of New Jersey you must:

be a citizen of the United States or be a legal immigrant with residency of more than 5 years

be a resident of New Jersey

be within the income guidelines shown below (133% of the federal poverty level.)

If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for Medicaid, you may be eligible to receive subsidies or tax credits to participate in the Health Insurance Marketplace, for which you may visit healthcare.gov to get more information.
